Getting engaged is huge. Moving out of state, also quite shocking (but usually not followed by tears of joy, well, unless you're a douche.) New job? That's great, but its impact isn't felt as deeply as anything else, and any joy might be cloaked in bitterness revolving around the thought: I bet you're making way more than me now, you jerk.
But somehow relaying that you're pregnant (when you're not in your teens, and when you're married) is *typically* as good of a bomb you can drop on loved ones. The pressure is on to find a cool way to do it because just saying those words: I'm pregnant... isn't as fulfilling for the surprise-bearer.
The risk is that the reaction won't be quite of the magnitude that was expected.
For the most part, our surprise was surprising. Except to those who tried to go out of the way to guess it ahead of time and learned later that being right isn't as important as being mum about the suspected new mum. ;)
What we did was give a framed photo of the following to them with the note: This will have to do until January...across the top.
And then this is the reaction. For now, you have to tip your head because silly iphone...you apparently have to keep your phone right side up (which is lame cuz that's not the way you view movies) to get it to film correctly. Am currently researching ways to flip the video. It won't post from youTube, so you'll have to click on the link. sorry.
Announcement: Bun in Oven
Similar reactions came from my siblings and a few close friends. Score for us! ;)
Now, it's still so early, so as excited as they all were, in the back of my head was the chant: Don't get too excited, don't get too excited. But they couldn't hear that chant. So...they got excited.
